Workshop in Freydières
September 28-29 2021
The team of the PORTAL project gathered in Freydières (Isère) during a two-day workshop, from the 28th to the 29th of September 2021, to review the progress of the project, to refine its objectives as well as the approaches and methodologies to achieve them.
Project members started with presenting previous work on: (1) the NbS (Nature-based Solutions) potential for transformative adaptation; (2) the location of NbS in the Alps across climatic hazard gradients; and (3) the trade-offs and synergies of NbS to achieve the UN Sustainable Development Goals.
Then, we worked in further defining specific elements of different objectives of the PORTAL project. We explored how to approach the assessment of the levers and barriers towards the implementation of NbS, the outcomes of implemented NbS in terms of ecosystem services and the trade-offs associated to those. We also discussed how to identify the leverage points related to NbS from an individual perspective, and to develop a checklist of recommendations for practitioners towards the implementation of NbS.
During three sessions, we worked in teams to explore the possible methods to achieve our goals, such as modelling the effectiveness of NbS, designing participatory scenario planning and conducting semi-structured interviews with NbS practitioners.
We also enjoyed the surrounding mountains during a hike before the end of the workshop.
